8 Mile Pie

As Andrea and I were getting ready for bed on Saturday night (Jan 23) we were discussing what to do the following day. We both mentioned that we would really like do a little exploring, the weather was supposed to be decent, and we really wanted to get a good pie. When I say pie, I mean a traditional pub dish, like a chicken pot pie, but usually filled with steak with ale sauce or some other stew like concoction. Every pub makes their pies different and it is kind of fun to try them at all the various pubs. This got us talking about the pies we had in London at the Jack Horner pub and how good they were. It wasn't long till our decision was made…we were going back to London to get one of those pies!

We couldn't just go to London for a pie; we needed to find something else to do. Since we have been eating out a lot we decided that we wanted to do a nice walk. We decided to get off the tube at a stop near a lot of the major attractions and then walk and visit a lot of the tourist sites we haven't visited yet. Our final destination would be the pub with the amazing pies and then back on the tube for a ride home.
The Infamous Pie (Chicken and Ham with Leek)

Little did we know that when we plotted out our trek that it was 8.18 miles! We walked all over the city. We went by Big Ben, Parliament, Westminster Abby, the London Eye, walked along the shores of the River Thames, Buckingham Palace, through Green Park and Hyde Park to see the ponds and Peter Pan statue, Andrea especially liked a huge Swan in the pond who kept scratching his butt, and finally some shopping along Oxford street. The pies were as good as expected, and they still had Honeydew beer on cask, we were very happy! We were especially surprised when we decided to try their bread pudding, it was fantastic! A return trip for this dessert is in order. We were exhausted after our journey, and did not want to get out of our seats at the pub. Finally we made it to the tube and instantly fell asleep for the 45 minute ride back to the car. Luckily we get off at the last stop or we might have slept right through our stop! Enjoy the pictures, and check back soon because I'll be posting a report from my birthday trip to the coast of England.
