Andrea's Quest has Ended!

We are counting the days down to when we move into our house. We get the keys on evening of the 12th, and have our first delivery of house hold good scheduled for the 13th. We hope to have everything in by the 15th. I can tell you, we are ready to be done with living out of suitcases and wearing the same clothes. We are also looking forward to outfitting our house with new furniture and decorations.

We have started doing some serious shopping for kitchen appliances. Since the power in the US is 110 volts and it is 220 volts here we decided to store or sell all of our electrical appliances before we came over here. I couldn’t believe it, but Andrea even gave up her Kitchen Aid for three years. We are finding that we moved at the right time because there are a ton of sales right now and we are finding some great deals.

Andrea’s grand quest is finally over! After visiting practically every shoe store between Edinburgh, Scotland and here, she finally found her Wellies! Wellies are what the English call rain boots. This has made her treks through the snow and puddles much more enjoyable. The funny thing is that we didn’t buy them from a shoe or sports store. They were all sold out. We finally found some in a fishing and gun store. So there we were, surrounded by all these manly things. Fishing rods, shotguns, waders, bait, tackle, and ammo and here we are trying on purple, pink, blue, and bright red rubber boots and talking how they would match her wardrobe. Yeah! I really felt manly. I have to admit, they maybe a little silly, but they look pretty good.

We have started to venture out into Ely more. I walked down from where our house will be to a pub to meet up with some of the guys from my squadron. We also went out and had dinner at a really cool restaurant on the river called Cutters. It is definitely a place we will take you all when you come and visit. We are finding some really great places to eat and hangout. We are really excited to be in a community where we can walk to pretty much anything.

Thanks to the lovely snow we still have not received the BMW. We were supposed to get it on either Thursday or Friday. I called Thursday afternoon to see when we could plan to pick it up. We were told due to the snow; the mechanic who was supposed to service it and make a few minor repairs couldn’t get out of his drive and would not be able to make it to work.  The area around Mildenhall is flat, I think the highest elevation is at most five feet, so I have no idea how he was stuck in his drive with our overwhelming 1-2 inches of snow. Oh well, we should get it Monday or Tuesday at the latest.
